When it comes time to select the right window treatment hardware, there are lots of options! Until a few years ago, drapery hardware usually consisted of unattractive, white, metal traverse rods. Today, you will find a huge variety of styles including glass, iron, wood, and many other imaginatively decorative items such as ceramic. Regardless of what type of window coverings you choose, there is a hardware that matches. It is important to determine first of all, if you want the window coverings hardware to be invisible or to stand out for some reason. As an example, in a more prominent or formal room you may want the rods and finials to stand out more, or a contemporary room may call for an uncluttered look and clean lines.

When you are choosing hardware, it is important to consider the function of the window treatment. Obviously, faux wood blinds will have a different function than draperies that require easy sliding rings or a drop cord system. If you have decorative panels, they can be gathered onto a rod or hung from ties or tab tops. For example, place window blinds next to the glass for light control and privacy, and put decorative curtain panels on for style and color. For the best effect, window treatments should be layered.

To accommodate a layer of sheers over drapes, you can use two rods or a double rod system. Regardless of what type of window coverings you choose to put up, whether it be vertical blinds or mini blinds, try to find finials, rods, or hardware that will enhance the look of your décor and window treatments. If you have a contemporary home, such items as glass finials, iron, metals, cables or chrome rods work well. If you decide on a cable system, this works well for wide windows or where your accessories and furnishings may be minimal and straight-lined.
